I don’t feel like the Super Bowl ad was as inspiring honestly (unless I didn’t see the right one). The narrative around women sports that they “must” do what others tell them not to do is tired imo. It perpetuates and reiterates the notion of “women are not supposed to” in an era when women are doing and very much excelling at everything. Look at the Liberties! Caitlin Clark should be portrayed the same way an emerging NBA rookie is. Plus, enough with the studio shoots. Let’s bring back irreverence and fun! Nike should be less robotic, that was what made it so iconic back in the day. I don’t watch or follow the NFL, so I can’t speak on the rest but I don’t see a cultural impact in that “win” campaign. I wasn’t inspired.

Great list of the key kicks coming through for Nike, but you forgot one major one: the A'One, which A'ja wore in the ad too!

For sure. I interviewed A’ja about the A’One in a previous article and I agree with you, it definitely was worth a mention. I initially decided to leave it off because performance basketball sneakers tend not to be major lifestyle sellers and was mainly referring to the shoes that will do major sales for Nike to (hopefully) replace the shortfall in revenue from the removal of Dunks, Air Forces and certain Jordan models.

That's fair, and I remember your writeup on the A'One too, great stuff.

I'd totally make a wager this year that the A'One will translate to the lifestyle world though! (Wanna take this bet?)

Haha I agree with you! It is very wearable and I think like you say will translate so easily to use off court, especially considering how well low-rise performance shoes are doing at the moment.

Ah dang, I was looking forward to a little wager here! Lol

I love how the “So Win” spot was a statement of both the power and cultural rise of female athletes as well as a simultaneous declaration that the Nike brand is still alive and kicking and coming for all those other running brands. Here for it!

I mostly loved the commercial and the Doechii narration….until the end. I think the tag lines could have been much more effective and clear.

Nike should be highlighting that female athletes ARE winning. Reminding the audience that women have had to and continue to overcome obstacles and achieve success despite these obstacles is not new and this commercial reinforces that narrative as @naomiaccardi shares above.
